It is round, with a lovely ogee-topped turret in the top for the doves to come in and out.
Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-2105920397901375342016-03-29T14:03:14.358+01:002016-03-29T14:03:14.358+01:00There is a fine Dovecote in the Gardens at Rousham...There is a fine Dovecote in the Gardens at Rousham.Stephen Barkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-87568782397783955442016-03-26T13:08:21.372+00:002016-03-26T13:08:21.372+00:00Thank you, Eileen. I know the one at Avebury (Avebury I think is a totally marvellous place, especially when visited in the evening or early in the morning when there are not too many other people about). I've not been to Shute Manor, but it sounds fun. As is the poo story!Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-81020595672804854952016-03-26T13:01:52.335+00:002016-03-26T13:01:52.335+00:00Lovely dovecote, that. Having said that, there is an interesting one built in Shute Manor in Shute, Devon. There are square holes in the wall above the kitchen with short tunnels for the pigeons to nest, which was handy for the cooks. The house is now owned by the National Trust, but apparently the last Lord of the Manor had the openings blocked up with pebbles because he was fed up with being poo'd on whenever he used that entrance. :)Eileen Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13807348224003585870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-16682007134089010392016-03-25T13:09:29.738+00:002016-03-25T13:09:29.738+00:00Thanks, Bazza. There is an interesting one built into the kitchen garden wall of Valentines Mansion, Ilford, which I think is octagonal.
CLICK HERE for Bazza’s fabulous Blog ‘To Discover Ice’bazzahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14794010156639774028noreply@blogger.com
