The generous windows must have made it a light, pleasant place to work in.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-53835958347530492112012-07-16T12:12:20.272+01:002012-07-16T12:12:20.272+01:00Hi there - I used to work in the Hat Factory in th...Hi there - I used to work in the Hat Factory in the 90s. It was, of course, the production office for a commercials company. We were on the top floor and the lift was very cranky. Great building to work in.Mariatishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11168142987838190182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-59236563418951954822007-11-26T17:36:00.000+00:002007-11-26T17:36:00.000+00:00It turns out I was wrong about Emma's grandmother ...It turns out I was wrong about Emma's grandmother being on her way to North London Collegiate; this was just while she was a pupil there, and going into town.Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18020242863144175965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-55484256467645097762007-11-25T12:34:00.000+00:002007-11-25T12:34:00.000+00:00Some factories made a bigger impact on their envir...Some factories made a bigger impact on their environment than others. Emma's grandmother recalled the all-pervasive stench of vinegar from the Crosse and Blackwell pickle factory in Soho Square, which she used to travel through in an open-topped horse-drawn omnibus on her way to North London Collegiate School. This would have been in the first decade of the 20th century, so we're talking about the original factory at 20-21 Soho Square, not the current building on the same site, which was erected in 1924. Soho Square is of course now full of publishers and music, advertising and film industry executives, not pickle-makers.Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18020242863144175965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-62288403833848246742007-11-24T18:57:00.000+00:002007-11-24T18:57:00.000+00:00Yes, Camberwell – it being a Camberwell beauty but...Yes, Camberwell – it being a Camberwell beauty butterfly.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-19907109726592606932007-11-23T11:25:00.000+00:002007-11-23T11:25:00.000+00:00This reminds me Philip, where was that big butterf...This reminds me Philip, where was that big butterfly advertising Samuel Jones stationery products?
