It would be interesting, too, to go inside and see what the carpenter had to do in the way of supporting timbers of varying lengths and heights, in order to achieve this curve.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-27084532523939471302012-01-21T22:37:20.938+00:002012-01-21T22:37:20.938+00:00What a wonderful organic curve to that roof - who ...What a wonderful organic curve to that roof - who knows what decisions were taken by a builder sucking his lip and saying "Oh, you don't want to do that."Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18020242863144175965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-27595407127335315902012-01-21T09:21:30.273+00:002012-01-21T09:21:30.273+00:00No, I don't know this business. I always think that walking through the arch in the terrace, into their yard, which is overlooked by dwellings (and a masonic hall!), and out the other side into the road with the 'stables', gives one a glimpse of how we carried on industry before the modern era. It's very atmospheric.Gareth Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05058241057385364459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-26991672347273179592012-01-19T21:02:04.514+00:002012-01-19T21:02:04.514+00:00Gareth: Absolutely. Some certainly have what look like hay lofts. I think there was also a tanning industry there once. Now it's all sorts. I think it's fascinating the way it's all right there in the middle of the town.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-5039568640275748312012-01-19T18:31:18.384+00:002012-01-19T18:31:18.384+00:00I enjoy the way Bromyard's town centre is ridd...I enjoy the way Bromyard's town centre is riddled with odd bits of light industrial activity, almost entirely housed in traditional buildings. I don't know of another town quite like it in this respect.Gareth Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05058241057385364459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-61171349956925414942012-01-19T11:22:07.131+00:002012-01-19T11:22:07.131+00:00Jane: Many thanks for your comment. I have the book by Adam Mournement and Simon Holloway - it's good that people are treating this undervalued building material seriously.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-86661954523885853262012-01-19T11:10:36.967+00:002012-01-19T11:10:36.967+00:00Very impressive curves, I lived in Bromyard for ma...Very impressive curves, I lived in Bromyard for many years. I love the agricultural buildings around that area have been left unmodernised. I lived with a local bricklayer. He built a spiral chimney stack on the memorial hall along the road that takes you onto the Downs road and The Royal Oak.<br />Good luck writing about The Guggenheim. Do you know the book Corrugated Iron by Adam Mournement and Simon Holloway from Ludlow?Jane Astonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16200822799330033852noreply@blogger.com
