The Telford church is impressive, and I resolve to go back and try the SV Railway.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-16388155007389184172009-05-20T13:48:13.952+01:002009-05-20T13:48:13.952+01:00we always enjoy reading English Building - thanks!...we always enjoy reading English Building - thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-42177054860213594232009-05-20T07:52:00.587+01:002009-05-20T07:52:00.587+01:00I lived in Bridgnorth for a couple of years, but g...I lived in Bridgnorth for a couple of years, but got fed up with the commute to Wolverhampton every day. I never really felt at home there, but it is a great place to visit. A hill town in England is unusual and the two churches (one by Thomas Telford) punctuating each end of the ridge make a remarkable sight. In addition to the quirky funicular railway, there is another transport of delight - the northern terminus of the Severn Valley Railway.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-5995315067918027382009-05-19T11:56:00.000+01:002009-05-19T11:56:00.000+01:00Ron: I always think of Italy when I see this kind ...Ron: I always think of Italy when I see this kind of railway, although of course they are everywhere.

Jon: The stamps of approval: I never had The Eagle (deprived childhood, clearly) but those ads ring a bell form somewhere. Wasn't Bridgnorth the place you sent off to for 'approval packs' of postage stamps from those advertisements in The Eagle? Of course you never got around to sending them back and had to pay up. Clever devils, taking advantage of innocent schoolboys like that.Jon Dudleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09717891707293701969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-90263857896372981902009-05-19T09:22:00.000+01:002009-05-19T09:22:00.000+01:00Well I never...and in Bridgnorth too! Near me the densely populated city of Genoa makes good use of this means of transport, squeezed as it is between the sea and the Maritime Alps.Ron Combohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05270358674385406494noreply@blogger.com
