They're often wonderful bits of carving, embodying folklore, mythical and real beasts, and all kinds of other scenes. A shame they're occasionally roped off from view, though.Philip Wilkinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04893714514416441572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-39608092554445889462009-03-15T10:30:00.000+00:002009-03-15T10:30:00.000+00:00Whilst you're on the subject of the lesser known, ...Whilst you're on the subject of the lesser known, Worcester Cathedral, like many churches an cathedrals has a group of hidden treasures, under the fobs of the choir stalls - misericords. Worcester Cathedral, has 42 of these beauties, 39 of which date from the 15th century, whilst the rest are Victorian replacements.

There are in excess of 200 churches, chapels and cathedrals in the UK alone, which have misericords, but by and large they sit there un-noticed and un-loved.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01268842151256264105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228081722487474323.post-51844917392954462672009-03-15T00:10:00.000+00:002009-03-15T00:10:00.000+00:00I really like Worcester Cathedral. And no security barriers and pay booths either. Hope it's still so.Peter Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00027878122724846472noreply@blogger.com
